Title: Bridging the Divide: Infrastructure Investment, Network Reconstruction, and Urban Economic Growth

Speaker: Pang Jindong, Tenured Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from Xi'an Jiaotong University and his doctoral degree from Syracuse University, USA. His main research fields are urban, regional, and environmental economics. He presides over youth and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and his research results have been published in renowned international journals such as Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Population Economics, and Journal of Applied Econometrics.

Abstract: This study focuses on the impact of bridge construction on urban economic growth:

    Empirical results: Bridges can break geographical barriers and effectively stimulate local economic development;

    Mechanism of action: Bridges enhance the centrality of internal urban regions, promoting the improvement of regional accessibility and functional integration;

    Extended impact: Bridge construction also significantly promotes the expansion of urban road networks.

These findings collectively highlight the important role of bridge construction in shaping urban economic growth and the transportation infrastructure system.
