Abstract: The 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Joel Mokyr, Philippe M. Aghion, and Peter W. Howitt in recognition of their complementary research on the topic of "innovation-driven economic growth". Joel Mokyr, based on history, points out that sustained technological progress depends on three elements: science, craftsmen, and social inclusion, revealing the premise for "sustained growth to become the norm"; Philippe Aghion and Peter W. Howitt modeled Schumpeter’s "Creative Destruction" paradigm, which was later widely used to analyze the design of growth policies and the role of the state in the growth process. This lecture will sort out their core ideas and academic contributions, and discuss their implications for industrial upgrading, education investment, and competition policies.
