Speaker: Simon George Brook Cowan, Wigmore Clarendon Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Worcester College, Oxford, and Associate Professor in Economics, Department of Economics. His research interests (Industrial organization) include: regulation of utilities, price regulation, price discrimination, competition policy, and environmental policy.

Abstract: A firm acts as a monopolist in one market and faces competition in another market. Should it be required to set the same price in its monopoly market as arises in the competitive market? In general social welfare is increased by such a uniform pricing requirement, despite the fact that it induces the monopolist to compete less aggressively in the competitive market.
