Abstract: This lecture introduces the paper Artificial Intelligence Development, Institutional Opening and RMB Cross-Border Trade Settlement. 1. Data and Identification Strategy: Based on cross-border RMB settlement data from the RCPMIS database of the People’s Bank of China, this lecture takes the establishment of national new-generation AI innovation demonstration zones as a quasi-natural experiment and adopts a multi-period staggered DID method to systematically examine the impact of regional AI development on RMB cross-border trade settlement. 2. Mechanism: AI boosts the cross-border use of RMB by expanding trade market share, improving product competitiveness and optimizing trade structure. 3. Heterogeneity: The promotion effect of AI on cross-border RMB settlement is more significant in economically developed regions, countries with close trade ties with China, Belt and Road member states and non-central currency issuing economies.
