Title: Grasp Complex Changes in the International Situation and Firmly Develop an Export-Oriented Economy
Speaker: Huo Jianguo, Doctor of Economics, Research Fellow and Doctoral Supervisor, Vice President of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies. He has worked at China National Native Produce and Animal By-Products Import and Export Corporation, the Institute of International Trade of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Commercial Section of the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, and the State Economic and Trade Commission. He once served as Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Department of the State Economic and Trade Commission, Deputy Director of the Commercial Services Department and Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce, President of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Food, Native Produce and Animal By-Products, and Dean of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation. He has long been engaged in foreign trade management and policy research, participated multiple times in China's WTO accession negotiations and APEC work from 1993 to 2001, and led research on response measures for 14 industrial sectors under the State Economic and Trade Commission after China’s WTO entry. He has published numerous articles in major domestic economic journals and authored monographs including China's Foreign Trade and National Competitiveness.
Abstract: Faced with a complex and volatile international economic and trade environment, we need to drive high-quality development of export-oriented economy through high-level opening-up. We will comprehensively upgrade economic and trade cooperation with major RCEP trading partners and deepen regional trade, investment, industrial and supply chain cooperation; actively advance the process of joining CPTPP and steadily pursue institutional opening-up to align domestic rules, regulations, administration and standards with high-level international norms; explore a new system of open economy and consolidate and expand two-way investment cooperation with major economies to elevate win-win and coordinated development; expand pilot opening-up in medical care, education, telecommunications and related professional services to create new space for opening-up; accelerate voluntary and unilateral opening-up, optimize the global market layout, and build a diversified, stable, safe and efficient international economic and trade network with stronger resilience to underpin the sustained and sound development of China’s export-oriented economy.
